Eye Exam with 3d Scan - What is it?

OCT stands for optical coherence tomography. This is an advanced 3D eye scan that helps the eye doctor see what’s going on beneath the surface of your eye.

Many common eye conditions can remain asymptomatic until they have significantly advanced, which means that changes in your eye health might be occurring without any noticeable impact on your vision.

Its purpose is to detect alterations in your eye health as early as possible.

OCT scans function by capturing a series of detailed scans of the posterior part of your eye, creating a comprehensive 3D image of crucial structures such as the optic nerve, retina, and macula. These 3D scans enable optometrists to detect any irregularities and diagnose eye conditions, such as age-related macular degeneration, glaucoma, and diabetic eye disease, during their initial stages.

3D scans may serve as a tool for closely monitoring the progression of your eye health over time. This is particularly crucial if you possess risk factors for eye conditions or if there is a history of eye disease in your family.
